Responsible Development

We are entering a new phase in development with a lot of infill adjacent to existing homes. The construction phase should not adversely affect neighboring properties. To reduce the risks to established homeowners in core neighborhoods I will develop a code of conduct for developers. This would outline best practices for drainage, preventing subsidence, keeping sidewalks clear and parking on streets and in alleys. City planners have a role too. For me, it is unacceptable for city admin to suggest that when a new apartment is planned, it has no role in informing neighbors of potentially serious consequences. For example, snow load changes that could break the roof of a neighboring house. A code of conduct would make everyone’s responsibilities clear. It would save the city, residents, and developers from costly legal fights.

An example of development that preserves established trees – lets incentivize this practice.
